The Public Works Department is led by the Public Services Superintendent. The department is made up of a total of 6 employees.
The department is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of:
- The wastewater collection system
- Storm drainage system
- Water distribution system
- Municipal streets
- Solid waste collection (other than weekly garbage collection and recyclables which is performed by an outside contractor)
- Yard waste collection
- Meter reading services
The Town of La Grange owns and operates Fairview Cemetery. The cemetery is maintained in part by the Public Services Department and on a contract basis. The Town contracts out the mowing and landscaping services to an independent contractor. Members of the Public Services Department are responsible for the other general cemetery maintenance including the roadways and the removal of debris from the cemetery.
Opening & Closing of Graves
Prior to burial, you will need to notify the Town in advance to allow a person designated by the Town to mark the plot on which the burial is to occur. The Town provides opening or closing services for graves, outside contractors are not authorized to open or close graves within the Municipally owned cemeteries.
Monument Installation Instructions
Prior to the installation of a permanent monument, the Town must also be notified in order to obtain a permit and schedule an appointment to have the monument set, to schedule an appointment, call 252-566-3186.
